Associate Project Manager/Projects Controls (Roanoke, VA)

The Associate Project Manager/Project Controls specialist will assist project management in various project management tasks, including: stakeholder communication, contractor management, contractor procurement, scope definition as well as developing schedules, cost control, and reports for various projects.  The Associate Project Manager/Project Controls specialist will also assist with other functions of the Project Management Office (PMO), including: portfolio reporting, interdependent project scheduling, interdependent project cost management, and process compliance.  

Job Responsibilities:

 

In general, the Associate Project Manager/Project Controls specialist will perform the following job responsibilities in addition to others as required for each project:

 

  • Consolidate project cost control reports for portfolio reporting.

  • Perform all project schedule and cost related updates throughout the lifecycle of projects assigned.

  • Reconcile forecasted, actual and budgeted costs.

  • Participate in development of project controls standards and guidelines.

  • Assist in developing metrics and measures for projects.

    Interface with Engineering, Construction, Planning, Project Management and other stakeholders to verify updates to schedule and cost related activities.

  • Analyze project progress and make recommendations as to cost projection forecasts.

  • Support documenting lessons learned and peer reviews.

  • Perform final project assessment to ensure compliance with project control standards.

  • Track and monitor project commitments, costs, and change requests received against the approved estimates.

  • Enter project schedules into Microsoft Project, Primavera 6, or other scheduling system.

  • Support project manager with regular project schedule and cost reporting.              

  • Notify Project Manager of cost overruns, underruns, and schedule delays in a timely fashion.

  • Provide regular reporting on overall portfolio.  Prepare reports, dashboards and key performance indicators.

  • Perform project cost and schedule audits on selective projects as required by management.

  • Perform project lifecycle conformance audit.

Subject Matter Expert Qualifications:

 

Qualified candidates for this position will have the following qualifications:

 

  • BS or BA in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture.

  • Master’s in Construction Engineering or Construction Engineering Management preferred.

  • 2 or more years of experience in an associate project manager, project controls, or project coordinator role.

  • Working knowledge of Project Control functions and processes – including planning/scheduling, cost control, cost estimating, Earned Value Management, change management, financial and project accounting standards and systems.

  • Planning and scheduling skills specifically related to construction management.

  • Thorough knowledge of Project Scheduling Applications (e.g. Primavera, MS Project) including implementation, configuration, and administration.

 

In addition to the general qualifications required  it is desirable, although not essential, that the APM/PC have one or more of the following Subject Matter Area Qualifications:

  • Degree in technical field related to Project Management (e.g. Construction Management) is a plus

  • Formal project management related credential (e.g. PMP) is a plus

  • End-to-end project management, portfolio management or enterprise project/application portfolio management solutions knowledge and experience is also a plus
